A new nationwide survey has found that a clear majority of voters believe President Donald Trump should resign if his health worsens. The poll was conducted by the Democracy Institute.
Out of 1,300 likely voters, 72 percent said Trump should step down if his condition declines. Twenty five percent disagreed with that view, while three percent remained uncertain.

When the results were broken down by party, 58 percent of Republicans agreed Trump should resign if his health falters. In contrast, 94 percent of Democrats and 76 percent of Independents supported that position.
Despite those numbers, most respondents did not say they were worried about Trump’s health today. Nearly half, 49 percent, said they were not concerned. About 41 percent expressed concern, and 10 percent were unsure.
The divide between Republicans and Democrats was sharp. Among Democrats, 81 percent reported concern about Trump’s health. Among Republicans, only 15 percent said they worried, while 83 percent said they had no concerns.

Questions about the White House’s transparency on Trump’s health also showed deep partisan splits. Ninety one percent of Democrats believed information was being hidden. Only four percent of Republicans thought the same.
Medical concerns grew after recent photos showed the president with swollen ankles and a bruise on his hand. The White House later said he was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency.

Officials explained the condition as common in older adults. Doctors said it is not life threatening but can lead to swelling and discomfort. The administration insisted the president remains in “excellent” health.
The White House also noted that Trump underwent vascular scans to rule out serious problems. Medical teams reported no urgent findings and recommended standard treatment such as rest and compression therapy.
The president dismissed questions about his health when pressed by reporters after Labor Day weekend. He argued that the media was applying double standards compared to coverage of former President Joe Biden.
Trump said speculation about his health was politically motivated and designed to weaken him ahead of next year’s election. His allies echoed that view, claiming his critics were exaggerating minor medical issues.
Vice President J D Vance said he was prepared to take over the duties of the presidency if required. His remarks followed questions about succession during interviews earlier this week.
Public discussion on aging leaders has grown louder after several older politicians faced health scares in recent years. Voters across party lines have called for more medical transparency from those in office.
Other surveys have shown strong support for presidents to release cognitive test results. Advocates argue that health disclosure builds public trust and prevents doubts about leadership at critical times.
The new poll highlights how views on Trump’s health are deeply divided along political lines. Still, most voters agree he should resign if his condition significantly declines.
