Senator Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina Republican known for being one of Donald Trump’s biggest supporters, recently stirred controversy again. On Fox News, he suggested the wild idea of Trump breaking the Constitution to run for a third term. During a Tuesday night chat with Sean Hannity, Graham declared, “Trump 2028. I hope this never ends.”
This offhand comment highlights the strong desire among Trump’s supporters to keep him in power indefinitely. However, the 22nd Amendment clearly limits presidents to two terms.
Graham, who chairs the Senate Budget Committee, praised Trump’s performance at the United Nations earlier that day. Trump criticized European countries for still buying Russian energy amid the war in Ukraine.
“He told the UN, ‘You’re more the problem than the solution,’” Graham said, echoing Trump’s words. He also repeated Trump’s claim of ending “seven wars,” even though fact-checkers have debunked this.
Graham added, “If it weren’t for Donald Trump, those wars would still be happening. Conflicts in places like Rwanda and Congo have lasted for decades.”
He insisted that who occupies the White House really matters. Graham described Trump as a mix of P.T. Barnum and Ronald Reagan, saying, “He’s on everyone’s mind.”
Graham continued to praise Trump as he wrapped up his segment. He applauded the president for “standing up at the UN and telling the world how it is.”
“We don’t have to live this way,” Graham said.
Sean Hannity had introduced the topic by mentioning Trump’s tough stance on Russia. Hannity noted how Trump was selling weapons and described Putin as a “paper tiger” who should have won the war quickly, but did not.
Graham agreed with a hardline approach. “If a Russian jet flies into your country, shoot it down,” he said. He added that Trump has tried to bring Putin to the negotiating table.
“We don’t want to humiliate Russia. We just want to end the war,” Graham explained.
But it was Graham’s final comment that caught attention. “I hope he runs again!” he said, repeating the “Trump 2028” slogan popular among MAGA supporters.
This is not the first time Graham has toyed with the idea. In March, after Trump addressed Congress, Graham tweeted, “Inspiring, funny, compelling and the Democrats’ worst nightmare. Trump 2028!”
When asked later, Graham dismissed it as a joke.
In August, ahead of the Kennedy Center Honors, Graham made a similar playful slip on social media, referring to Trump as the “47th president,” skipping over Grover Cleveland’s non-consecutive terms.

At the same event, Graham even wore a “Trump 2028” cap, merchandise sold by Trump’s campaign despite the constitutional ban on a third term.
Trump himself has fueled this fantasy by joking about running again during rallies and interviews. His team also sells “Trump 2028” gear.
For Trump’s base, this is a way to thumb their nose at term limits and celebrate the chaos they enjoy.
However, critics including constitutional experts and Democrats see this as a serious threat to democratic norms. This is especially concerning coming from a senator who has long talked about respecting the rule of law.
Graham’s unwavering support isn’t new. He went from harsh critic of Trump in 2016 to one of his closest allies.
His recent comments are classic Lindsey: part flattery, part showmanship, and timed to energize Trump supporters ahead of the midterms.
Whether it’s a serious plan or just political theater, one thing is clear— in the MAGA world, the Trump era is something they hope never ends.
Or as Graham said, maybe it never will.
