Legendary singer-songwriter Neil Young has announced he is removing his music from Amazon and is urging fans to boycott the tech giant and other major corporations.
In a passionate message posted to the Neil Young Archives, the rock icon calls out Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and accuses the company of supporting a government that, in Young’s words, “does not support you or me.”
“FORGET AMAZON AND WHOLE FOODS. FORGET FACEBOOK. BUY LOCAL. BUY DIRECT,” Young writes. “BEZOS SUPPORTS THIS GOVERNMENT. IT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU OR ME.”
Young continues his post with a rallying cry against corporate dominance and a plea to support local communities:
“The time is here.
FORGET AMAZON.
Soon my music will not be there.
It is easy to buy local. Support your community.
Go to the local store.
Don’t go back to the big corporations who have sold out America.
We all have to give up something to save America from the Corporate Control Age it is entering.
They need you to buy from them. Don’t.
They shut down our government,
your income,
your safety,
your family’s health security.
Take America Back.
Together, stop buying from the big corporations.
Support local business.
Do the right thing. Show who you are.”
It’s currently unclear whether Young plans to remove only his streaming catalog from Amazon Music, or whether he’ll also pull his physical merchandise from the retailer.
This is not the first time Young has taken a public stand against major platforms. In 2022, he famously pulled his music from Spotify in protest over COVID-19 misinformation spread via The Joe Rogan Experience. Although he later returned to the platform in 2023 — after Rogan’s exclusivity with Spotify ended — Young made it clear his return was reluctant.
Young has also cut ties with Facebook, ceasing activity on his official page in August 2025 after a Reuters investigation revealed that Meta’s AI chatbots were allowed to engage in inappropriate conversations with minors.
His discontent with the current political climate was underscored last month with the release of a new protest song, “Big Crime,” in which he condemns former President Donald Trump for “fascist crimes” and declares: “Don’t want soldiers on our streets.”
Neil Young’s latest move continues a long tradition of protest and activism — urging fans not just to listen to the music, but also to the message behind it.
